Community march and rally in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Olympia, WA --  The MLK Day Rally in support of economic and social justice for low-income community members is coming Monday January 16 to Olympia.

Join POWER members and allies in honoring the work of Dr. King by advocating for a strong social safety net and ensuring that the voices of low-income families are heard loud and clear by the 2016 Washington State legislature.

The annual MLK Day Rally is a cornerstone event in POWER's grassroots organizing work and offers low-income community members the support and tools they need to take the lead in planning legislative action and civic engagement, and to create the change they would like to see.

POWER supports and encourages leadership development for low-income and differently-abled community members whose individual voices, experience and wisdom are often overlooked or ignored by policymakers. The rally and march to the Capitol is led by families with small children and people with slower mobility to ensure accessibility for everyone.

The event is free. Participants should gather at 11 am at Darby's Cafe on 5th Ave. The march to Tivoli Fountain will begin at noon. Afternoon activities include 1:1 and small group visits with legislative representatives, hand-delivering letters, and attending hearings. Children's activities at the Capitol Rotunda during parent visits with representatives will be provided by the Olympia Child Care Collective. Registered participants will receive a sack lunch provided by The Olympia Food Co-op and Tumwater Safeway.

For more information or to register, call POWER at 360-352-9716 or by email at info@mamapower.org.
