Quick Facts

The MLK Day March and Rally, organized annually by POWER, supports low-income community members in speaking out about the importance of a strong social safety net.  

 

(1)  Where and when is the event? Participants meet 11 a.m. at Darby's Cafe on 5th Ave., Monday January 16. Darby's is one block east of Capitol Way, conveniently located next to city bus options and with free street-side parking.

 

(2) Is the event free? Yes, the event is free.

 

(3) I need help to take part -- what do you offer? POWER can help participants with bus fare, organizing carpools, or the cost of gas to travel to Olympia. Local organizations have donated food for sack lunches for participants. The Olympia Child Care Collective will provide age-appropriate activities and care while parents visit their representatives. There are community volunteers available to assist persons with mobility concerns on the half-mile march to the Tivoli Fountain.

 

(4) How do I find out who my representative is? You can find out who your representative in using the District Finder or call the POWER office at 360-352-9716 and we will help you.

 

(5) I want to volunteer. What should I do? Volunteers can contact the POWER office at 360-352-9716 to learn about many amazing opportunities to support POWER's work.

 

(6) Do you accept cash donations? Yes. POWER is a 501(c)3 and we operate on a shoe-string budget that would benefit from any amount of generosity to support our work.
