A firm guidepost in successful design of solutions, services or products includes asking the expert. And by expert I don't just mean the ivory tower guy.

While theoretical learning is important, the voice of the customer is vital all along the development path. Seeking out, listening and applying customer insights helps create a better product or service. It also lets the customer know that they are valued.

In today's marketing world, the emphasis is on building strong relationships with customers. One way to do that is by recognizing them as the expert in their own life, interests, desires and needs. Don't assume you know.
